For Shame Denis Leary

In his new book:

"There is a huge boom in autism right now because inattentive mothers and competitive dads want an explanation for why their dumb-a** kids can't compete academically, so they throw money into the happy laps of shrinks . . . to get back diagnoses that help explain away the deficiencies of their junior morons. I don't give a [bleep] what these crackerjack whack jobs tell you -- yer kid is NOT autistic. He's just stupid. Or lazy. Or both."

Truly he should have learned from Michael Savage's mistakes.

So, in the spirit of protecting our kids I have found the following:

#1 the book will not be released until November 18th.

#2 the publisher is Viking Adult and you can find them through Penguin.

I am new to this blog so I want to preface my remark by noting that I am the father of an autistic boy, age 5. He still does not speak, but is finally learning to sign a little.

Although the comment of Denis Leary certainly rankles, I get even more rankled by those parents who do fit his description. There are those (I am related to some of them) who look for any excuse for their child. I don't agree with the idea of publishing a book with such a negative attitude but I do think the issue has a point and frankly it detracts from my ability to get the services I need for my son.

He disgusts me, he should be doing something more constructive with his "celebrity" if you want to call it that. My son is 5 w/ PDDNOS. I'm a new visitor to your blog - it's great!

Leary's comments were taken out of context. Google "Denis Leary" and "out of context." He wasn't talking about children with real autism.
