Why Simon Says is Evil

Walking across the parking lot after a church activity on Wednesday night at a church we don't belong to...

Me: So did you all have a great time?

Kids: YEAH! (and one small no.)

Me: Xander, what happened?

Xander: We played the STUPIDEST game of Simon Says EVER.

Me: Shhhh! Wait until we get into the car and then you can explain.

Xander stomps to the car with his angry eyebrows. We climb in and I shut the doors.

Me: So what happened?

Xander: We played the STUPIDEST game of Simon Says EVER.

Me: Please stop saying stupid and tell me what happened.

Xander: The boss came in and said "Simon Says--LINE UP!" So we did. Then we waited a looooonnnnggggg time after going into a different room. Then the boss said "Simon Says--LINE UP AGAIN."

Me: Oh Xander....

Xander: And she didn't even give anyone else a turn!

He was fuming. To bring it up now still brings on irritation to the nth degree. So caregivers, never play this version of Simon Says with a child who will take what you say very, very literally.

Xander has now decided he will never play Simon Says again. Knowing this boy, the 'boss' will have to use a different tactic for moving him from room to room.

Happy 7th birthday my boy who never fails to make me smile.

Oh yes. The majority of people [adults] just don't recognize that their 'tricks' just backfire badly with our children.
Best wishes

Simon Says tell the boss to just ask you to line up if that's what she wants. ;)

Happy (late) Birthday, Xander!!

My husband thought he was being cute the other day when he was talking to my daughter. She wanted to go out to eat. We both had told her no. My husband then told her she could go by herself. And what was my 5yr old's reaction? She got herself dressed, grabbed my car keys and asked us for some money. I let my husband fix that mess he created. I just stayed out of it.(Except for a few giggles I couldn't hold in)
