December Flew By

Every year the kids take the month of December off. It is a time of relaxing, baking and non-stop video games and TV. They are free to sled, draw, design... my dining room floor stays filthy from Play-doh projects and fake snow. We added Magic Rocks this year that came *this close* to tipping over onto the floor as well.

This weekend as we begin 2011 it is time to put away Christmas and begin looking towards school work again on Monday. The kids are mentally ready--I am not. :)

Some people have asked what we use for our homeschooling curriculum:

Enrichment activities:
Happy 2011 Everyone! I would love to hear about when you start school again and what your curriculums look like!

I will be starting a new series on "How To" teach various subjects on Friday. These posts will cover curriculum I have used over 20+ years of home-schooling. I hope you'll consider giving them a look!

How are you liking the Apologia? I'm wanting to get the anatomy to start with my girls (6 & 7 years old) in the next few weeks. Do your younger children enjoy it? Do you guys use the journals? I'm considering also getting the jr. journals to go along with it, but I don't know anyone IRL who has used it so I'm a little leary without many reviews to go on.

I like the Apologia but would not have chosen the Anatomy book for my younger two. They are kind of limited in what they can do in it and it takes added explanation. If I were teaching a 6 & 7 year old I would go with this set: http://www.christianbook.com/notebooking-journal-exploring-creation-with-zoology/jeanne-fulbright/9781935495116/pd/495116?item_code=WW&netp_id=684512&event=ESRCN&view=details
Those books are a lot of fun and I think your kiddos would get a lot more out of them. I am actually going to be getting the Fifth Day one for my 7 & 9 year old because the Anatomy is over their heads in a lot of ways. As far as the journals.. the author tells you what should go in them so I just use spiraled notebooks. I did not purchase the listed journals.
